Choose the Perfect Dresses for your Bridesmaids

A big part of your upcoming wedding is picking out the right dress. However, it is not only important to get the perfect dress for you, but also for your bridesmaids!

The dress-shopping process should be fun, not stressful. Oftentimes, opinions and feelings can pose as barriers, but make sure to enjoy the process with your ‘maids so it will be a moment to remember for years to come.

To make this process go smoothly and stress-free, we have come up with some tips to help make this process easier on you. Take a look at our tips below!

Coordination

The dresses you choose for your bridesmaids should coordinate with the colors you are using for your event. Otherwise, you could run the risk of having the dresses clash against one another and having that take the attention off of you. Who really wants that to happen, especially when you should be the main focus?

The dresses you choose for your bridesmaids should also compliment your dress. If yours is very intricate, consider a simple-yet-elegant look for everyone else. If your dress is very simple, you can play around with small, fun details for the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Creativity

The dresses you choose don’t necessarily need to be the same for every bridesmaid! You’re allowed to be creative with choosing the dresses for your bridesmaids. Everyone has different body types, and there is not a one-size-fits-all perfect dress that will look great on every single bridesmaid, so sometimes it does take a little thinking to be able to find the right dress solution for each of your gals!

If you are the person choosing the dress, you can make them wear the same dress or choose a specific dress for each individual person. If those solutions don’t work out, you can give them a set of guidelines and let them choose their own dress. Just don’t forget to give your bridesmaids instructions on what color dress they should buy, what length, and the general style you are looking for.

Color

Picking from a rainbow of colors can be overwhelming, especially if you go shopping without an idea in mind. Think about colors you like, or have chosen for your event. Take into consideration also the season in which you are having your event. Make sure that whatever dress (or dresses) you pick, it goes along with your decor, flowers, and most importantly, your dress.

One thing we don’t suggest doing is to have completely different colored dresses for each bridesmaid or dama. You don’t want to end up with a lime green dress with a soft-colored blue dress. If you want variation, pick a color that is all within the same color scheme. Look at Pinterest for inspiration, or create your own board of the things you like and get some opinions from your ‘maids.

Shopping

If your bridesmaids will be coming from far away, coordinating everyone to try on dresses at a specific store can be a hassle, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a solution to this problem! Online stores, such as Kennedy Blue, offer at home try ons.

Your friends and family can order dresses with different styles, lengths, and colors. They will have the convenience of having the dress shipped to them, allowing them to try the dress on in the comfort of their own home. Kennedy Blue also has color swatches of the material of the dress so you can make sure it is the color you envisioned.

Accessorize

If you end up getting the same dress for all your bridesmaids, a good way to set them apart is through jewelry. Consider letting them pick out different necklaces, earrings, or bracelets that go along with your guidelines. If everyone wears different dresses, you can bring them all together with the same jewelry. If the dresses have a lot of detail, go simple with the jewelry. If the dresses are simple, bling it up!
